Mr. Long has spent much of his career in service industries, particularly the professional lawn service industry, holding various senior management positions with companies with track records of growth.
From 1997-2005 he was the vice-president and general manager with Scotts MiracleGro. Mark put together the team and oversaw the launch of Scotts LawnService. The division grew rapidly, utilizing an opportunistic combination of corporate owned unit expansions, strategic acquisitions, and franchising to build divisional revenues in excess of $100 million by 2003. By 2005 system wide revenues exceeded $150 million, with over 70 corporate locations and 1,200 employees serving 350,000 customers.
His experience in the lawn service space dates to 1977, starting with Barefoot Grass Lawn Service where he spent 18 years, most of that time in a number of management roles throughout the country. Barefoot grew steadily from a new start to $110 million before it was acquired by TruGreen/ChemLawn in 1997.
Mark left Barefoot in 1995 to serve as the President of New Frontier Lawn Care until early in 1997 when he left for Scotts MiracleGro. New Frontier was a start of a different nature; a merger of existing lawn care companies to form a single enterprise. Mark oversaw the merger and presided over the integration of the operations.
More recently he was a partner with Blue SkyGroup, LLC a consulting firm that does mergers and acquisitions and general business consulting, most notably acquisition search work for HomeTeam Pest Defense, Orkin, TruGreen, Scotts, and various other clients.
He holds an MBA from The Ohio State University and BBA from Mt. Vernon Nazarene University.
