As we’ve been reporting here, the Obama EPA is taking steps to pull the veil off thousands of so-called “inert” ingredients in chemical compounds including pesticides. Today’s Washington Post provides a fascinating read on the subject: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/01/03/AR2010010302110_pf.html

This is going to be shocking. If you look at a a three way label this is what you see:
ACTIVE INGREDIENTS:
Dimethylamine Salt of 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic Acid* ……………………………………….. 30.56%
Dimethylamine Salt of 2-(2-methyl-4-Chlorophenoxy)propionic Acid* ……………………… 16.34%
Dimethylamine Salt of Dicamba (3,6-Dichloro-o-anisic Acid) *** ………………………………. 2.77%
INERT INGREDIENTS ………………….. 50.33%
TOTAL ………………………………100.00%
Most of this product is “unlabeled” I personally have always thought that it is most likely a “filler” like water. I could not have imagined that this is something potentially harmful. Afterall, it is registered with the EPA.
Its official, I may have been duped, the smoke is about to clear from the mirrors I beleive.
“When used at labeled rates this product does not pose an unreasonable risk to children or pets.” I have said this thousands of times to thousands of homeowners……..God help me.
