Espoma Joins SafeLawns Movement
For Immediate Release 3/22/2011
Pioneer in Organics Supports Educational Initiative

MILLVILLE, N.J. — As part of an ongoing effort to reinforce its commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability, The Espoma Company announces a partnership with the SafeLawns Foundation to support educational programs for natural lawn care and gardening in 2011.
SafeLawns, a national 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 2006, offers free how-to videos for homeowners at SafeLawns.org, as well as educational sessions for do-it-yourselfers and professionals across the United States and Canada. The Foundation’s mission is educating gardeners on how to make the transition from synthetic chemical to natural organic landscape maintenance programs.
“The Espoma Company has been the pioneer in natural organics since 1929, and is committed to educating and promoting the benefits that natural and organic gardening products provide to gardeners, communities, and the environment. We are proud to partner with Paul Tukey and the Safelawns Foundation to help with that educational process,” says Espoma Vice President Jeremy Brunner.
“We’re delighted to be working with Espoma, the nation’s leader in organic fertilizer options,” said Tukey, the SafeLawns founder and author of The Organic Lawn Care Manual (Storey 2007). “I’m so impressed that a family-owned company founded 82 years ago is making such a concerted modern-day effort to reduce its carbon footprint — from updating its factory, to the installation of a state-of-the-art solar energy system, to committing resources toward teaching, for many folks, a new way of gardening with natural products. It’s very impressive.”
