California’s Global Warming Law Gains Major Backers
Oil companies would like to see California’s landmark emissions bill suspended.
In 2006, the state of California set the national standard with passage of a Global Warming Solutions Act, which mandates that the state clean up its environmental emissions behavior by the year 2020.
The law, one of the major impetuses behind California embracing cleaner lawn mower technologies and hybrid cars faster than any other state, has been hailed by environmentalists — but has been under fire lately. A referendum on the upcoming Nov. 2 ballot would suspend the enforcement of the Global Warming Solutions Act unless unemployment dips back below 5.5 percent.
