A Great EMail Worth Reading
I receive oceans of these sorts of emails each week to my personal account. Either folks don’t know about the blog, or they’re too shy. I just have to share this one, though:
I have told so many people about you and your book.
I wanted to let you know my story. I am a girl and have no idea how to take care of a lawn. Never even cut my own grass. I had a new lawn put in. I let the lawn go because they did not give me instructions on how to take care of it. So clueless.
I got nervous when the lawn starting to die on me and was overfilled with weeds. Everyone said…just go by a bag of Scotts!
Everyone! I said…I have pets…and I don’t know what is in it. They said..it washes away! So…I decided to stop listening to clueless people that pretended to know…and educate myself. Off I went to the library and found your book. I put it on the coffeetable and let it sit there another month. I was so riddled with fear. Weeds went out of control. I did not think I had what it took to do lawn maintenance. I went to the NOFA and found a landscaper and paid him a ton of money to do my lawn. He aerated it and then threw some compost down. I started to read your book one night. Realized how easy it was to understand. The landscaper said it is time to seed. I said…well…Paul Tukey said that the weeds have to come up first because the seed needs to touch the ground. He said…they will work their way down to the soil. I said…well…Paul Tukey says…etc. He got mad at me and said….well..just pick up the weeds!!! So…I spent 2 twelve hour days on my hands and knees picking weeds. I never even cut grass before so I was way out of my element. I read that compost should be put down so I watched your videos on compost and went and purchased some. That took another 2 twelve hour days. I had no idea what I was doing. Everyone was amazed..all the neighbors…wondering what in the world was I doing…for goodness sake…just put a bog of Scott’s down on the lawn! I kept hoping my lawn would turn around so I could prove them all wrong!! The landscaper came and seeded and fertilized. My lawn looked awesome in no time!! It still does one month later. I am so pleased with my lawn and love learning about lawn maintenance. It has been a very empowering experience and I owe it all to you and what you are doing out there to educate others on organic lawn care.
