Dr. Earth Joins Safelawns Mission

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - JULY 1, 2009

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In an effort to expand their mutual goals of national outreach of organic gardening education , Dr. Earth fertilizers and the SafeLawns Foundation announced a year-long partnership focused on helping people understand the transition to sustainable landscaping.

As part of the process, Dr. Earth founder Milo Lou Shammas will join the SafeLawns advisory board and become part of the question-and-answer team. Educational magazines, titled The Dr. Earth Gardening Guide, will be mailed free of charge to anyone who registers on-line at www.SafeLawns.org or www.DrEarth.com. The campaign will also include public presentations and the production and distribution of how-to videos.

“I’m thrilled to have someone with Milo’s passion and base of knowledge involved with SafeLawns.org,” said SafeLawns founder Paul Tukey. “We literally answer thousands of questions from the millions of people who visit our web site each year. Milo and Dr. Earth bring tremendous resources for the benefit of organic gardeners everywhere.”

For Shammas, who founded the Dr. Earth fertilizer company in 1991, the SafeLawns partnership is the continuation of a decades-long mission.

“I am excited to work closely with SafeLawns.org because I share the same vision as Paul Tukey its founderm” he said. “Since 1991 I have preached the organic lifestyle and the application of safe gardening practices. I want to make a lasting impression on our environment and help gardeners to succeed every time. I care for every person’s health and the environment; Paul is a great spokesperson who will help facilitate this message.”

Dr. Earth, which manufactures organic fertilizers and soil, as well as earth friendly pesticides, insecticides and compost products, is currently the fifth corporate sponsor involved with SafeLawns.org. The others include Black & Decker, GardensAlive, Bradfield Organics and SafeLawns & Landscapes LLC. Other funding sources for SafeLawns include member donations and grants from Wells Fargo and other foundations.
